The Cleveland MetroParks Zoo Sketch Crawl
On July 7th, I visited the zoo with eight members of The Northern Ohio Illustrators Society
to draw and hang out with the animals. Below are a few of the 30 or so sketches I created
in my Moleskine Sketchbook with a Pilot Precise V5 rollerball pen.

Take another Hike!

Our family visited Acadia National Park in June, on Mount Desert Island.
We did a lot of hiking (about 25 miles all week).

All of these photos were taken with my iPhone, and the panorama shots
were created with a really neat little iPhone app called Autostitch Panorama.
This app fairly seamlessly stitches together multiple images into wide angle formats.
The image above is Cadillac Mountain, 1,530 summit elevation.
We hiked it the second day we were there
.

The Shore Path is one of the easier and more popular hikes, with dramatic rocky coastal views,

The recent Martin Scorsese film "Shutter Island" was filmed partly in Acadia, using the rocky coast on the Shore Path and the Great Head Paths for many of the action scenes in the movie.

I believe the rock beach above is featured in the movie, as well as the location below on the Great Head coastal trail.

Eagle Lake is a mile walk from our reantal home. I took these pictures with my iPhone early on Father's Day. The one at left is comprised of six images (2 rows of 3) and the one above is 3 images in a single row.

This is an image comprised of, I think, 5 images. It was taken at the barbeque
outdoor restaurant after a tour of The Atlantic Brewing Company in Bar Harbor.
People and objects in the foreground are tricky, and sometimes the app can't
assemble the images without blurring or ghosting effects.

The images at left show our group (l-r nephew Matt, son Jon, wife Margie and daughter Rachel) in a single shot at the top of the Beehive, a 200-plus vertical climb with switchbacks, iron ladders and natural rock hand- and foot-holds. The picture below it shows a composits shot of the ocean and forest view. The image above is before cropping; this is about 9 images overlapping to show the Beehive from the botttom of the trail.

This is a rugged wooded trail along Echo Lake, and up the Canada Cliffs.
I think this is 3 images composited.
